Background

The Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program of BC employs 120+ nursing, allied health and clinical staff. Opportunites occur periodically ranging from RN, to social work, to physiotherapy etc.

The Program employs a primary nursing patient care model, with a ratio of two to three patients per nurse.

Nursing rotations in the Inpatient Unit involve 12-hour shifts, typically two days, two nights, five days off. The Leukemia/BMT Program Medical Daycare is open seven days a week, from 0700 to 1900 (0800 to 1700 on weekends). The rotation varies with a combination of 8-hour and 11-hour shifts.

Orientation to the Program involves self-directed modules, classes and preceptored shifts. It is approximately 8-10 weeks in length. There is also a multitude of continuing education opportunities, including conference and class attendance, and semi-annual Leukemia/BMT Program Education Days.
